Garmin Express Update - 5.6.1.0

Post by David. »

Have recently tried to install the latest Garmin Express Update - 5.6.1.0, previous version was 5.5.0.0.

After several attempts, the update failed. In the past, un-installing GE, then re-installing has done the trick. On this occasion, it hasn't worked.

When trying to open GE, it will not start, a dialog box appears which says, a .NET Framework, Version 4.5.2 is required. Have tried to download & install this without success.

Have spoken to Garmin & between us, so far, haven't resolved the problem, can anyone shed any light on this matter, thanks.

Did mine on my mac a couple of days ago, funny thing was, it wouldn't update from Express itself from within the programme, but did updated when I rebooted the Mac. But it seems fine

I can never get it to update directly, it always fails after a couple of minutes.  I don't uninstall what's there just install the latest version which overrides the previous version.  Works every time.

"Phoned a Friend", with his help, I have now installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2

Did this directly from the Microsoft website, not via the dialog box from Garmin Express.

Garmin Express 5.6.1.0 is now installed & working.

Just gad a quick look to see if it would sort mine out.  Seems to be for older versions of Windows, not 10.  what are you running David?

Does anyone have a link to, or a copy of, Garmin Express v5.5.0.0 (the .exe file) in their Download Folder? I downloaded GE V5.6.1.0 which will install but not run/launch on my Windows Vista software. Garmin Support were of no help and just said you need Windows 7 SP2 or later to run. Thanks in advance.

I was told by Garmin, that you cannot go back retrospectively to GE 5.5.0.0., once you have downloaded GE 5.6.1.0.

When trying to run/launch GE, are you getting a Microsoft .NET Framework error, if so, what .NET Framework does it say you need.

Garmin suggested downloading & running Microsoft's .NET Framework Repair Tool, didn't work for me.
I went to the Microsoft website, downloaded & run the .NET Framework 4.6.2, see link in above post.

When I try to launch/run V5.6.1.0 the error message just says "Unable to launch due to and error. Contact Garmin Support" I have installed and run GE v5.6.1.0 and my 'other half's' laptop, so all is not lost. I'm will try the link in your previous email. I should have just stayed with v5.5.0.0 when I first saw your mail with the problems of the upgrade. Ho hum. As for buying a Mac ... I would much rather put the money into a Helite Airbag Safety Vest.

I updated the maps on my Garmin yesterday to 2018.10. After doing that Basecamp refused to run with an error report box opening up containing loads of apparent faults which means absolutely nothing to me.

After several attempts I gave up and uninstalled it. That I believe was V 4.6.2.0.

I had an old download of V 4.3.3 which I have reinstalled and runs fine. The only problem now is everytime I open it I get a nag screen telling me there is an update available which I'm declining at present. ???

A Garmin Express update to Version 5.6.2.0 is available, tried to download it but failed.

After all the chew with the previous update 5.6.1.0, might just leave it alone for now.

Does anyone know what the purpose/reason is for all the GE updates.
