A R1200RT report from the RIDE publication

I had this PDF sent to me, quite interesting although it may be old news for some.

I read the article in the magazine when it was first published (took it to read on holiday). I emailed Kev and pointed out a few 'inaccuracies' in the report. He was very grateful for my comments and apologised profusely, blaming publication deadline pressures for the mistakes.


Kev's a true gent, who was glad to receive some reader feedback from an RT fan.


I only buy the bike magazines occasionally, when there is something of interest to me. It bugs me when they can't get the facts right .

The bit where 'amazingly a centrestand wasn't fitted as standard' is wrong - RTs have always had centrestands.


Also, in part 5, the description about final drive oil changes etc is misleading - 'most specialists agree...' - In fact BMW themselves schedule oil changes. 'Don't overfill it...' - The fill volume was revised from 210 to 180mL. The twin-cam bikes do have a vent on the bevel box.


Part 6 - mirrors - hexhead mirrors pop off. The mirrors on twin-cam bikes have a retaining screw.


Minor stuff, I know, but I think some of the report misrepresents what is actually a great bike.
