I think the idea is you fit them as a matched pair, as per normal.l wouldn't feel happy otherwise but at the end of the day it's personal choice I suppose.

"HWM front tyre version has the same 2-ply construction as the standard version, but benefits from stiffer carcass material and sidewall construction plus a slightly different compound recipe."

Yes, strange indeed! Could that be a typo on the website? As the bike was supplied with Michelin PR4 GT's which are heavy weight type tyres I fitted the equivalent Metzelers (HWM's). Quite happy with that, not going back now! [emoji3]

Probably not, with the pre-LC RT's, Metzeler listed Z6's & Z8's before the 01's became available.B787MECH wrote:Yes, strange indeed! Could that be a typo on the website?
In both cases, the front was a standard version with the rear being a 'C' version.
Now they are listing 01's as a standard version on the front & HWM on the rear of an LC.
The HWM front is an alternative to the standard version, again, down to personal choice.

I took that advice and have had no reason to regret or question it.

Avon Spirit ST fitted a couple of weeks ago now with over 2000 miles covered nothing but good things to report. Having just got back from a trip to Provence these tyres proved faultless. Of course we all know that French roads are vastly superior to the low grade crap we have to contend with here in the U.K. and no doubt any tyre will feel better on such surfaces but having quite a lot of experience riding in France these new Avons are very good. My journey south was mainly on N and D roads with lots of bend swinging. The drop down the Ardeche valley off the Auvergne plateau to Aubenas with a multitude of steep descending bends mean quite heavy braking and a lot of front end loading. No cause for concern in that department and no loss of grip on hard 2nd gear acceleration when well cranked over. My return journey was all Autoroute from Montelimar to Calais so a good test to check for any "squaring" off. On checking the rear this morning I can see no visible signs of flatness forming at all.
In a nutshell, very pleased with my purchase. And they are of course, British (Made in England) !!. Recommended.
Update.
3000 miles now recorded on the Avon Spirit ST since fitting last October. Just had a good look and “NO” visible signs of centre wear on the Rear. Groove depth remains at 7mm as when fitted. A very slight profile change can just be felt by hand. Front is as new.

ContiMotions. I had a set. They are far less expensive than just about any other offering out there. I have 7K on the front and got about 5K on the rear before I changed the rear to a Roadsmart III. The combination is just fine !!!
I will definitely buy another front for 65.00. Great value !!! After almost 3K the IIIs seem to be doing just fine on the rear. With the Contimotions, you need to be a bit conservative when you twist the throttle. The rear can wear quickly if you are hard on them. I didn't for most of the tire's life. But after about 3K, I guess I lost me discipline .

My Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres came off at the 60,000 km service last week. I'd done 14,000 km on them and was very happy with the way they worked for me.
The front had flat sides, giving a triangular profile, but still gave great grip and confidence.
The rear was low in the centre and did not have long to go before replacement.
I'd have gone with the same again, but the dealer only had Michelin PR4 GT in stock and made silly statements about the Metzeler being a second rate tyre. They seemed unaware of the German magazine Motorrad testing tyres and finding the Roadtec 01 to be better than all other sport touring tyres two years in a row.
It will be interesting to see what I think of the PR4 GT after the Roadtec 01, I've never had the Michelins before.
I notice already that the bike feels very wandery, like it would rather turn than go straight.

Just had a service and the tyres are at 1.6mm front and back with even wear across both. They are Bridgestone BT023 and have done 9,232 miles in 2 years.
Did a little exercise on tyre wear from the service records and found after 2,515 miles they were 3.5 on the front and 4.8 on the rear. Mainly a commute for 6 months on M25 and A3, about 130mile round trip.
This meant the front wore down by 1.9mm and the rear by 3.2mm over the next 6,717 miles! Shorter commute on the A27/M27 for 4 months of about 70 mile round trip, then a commute on B road and A3, round trip now down to 55 miles.
Unfortunately unable to check the wear for the first 2.5k as I don't have the starting tread depth. Might do that for the next set due very soon.

Who is going to rush out and replace their PR4GTs with Road5GTs ? And will they be measurably better ? I find the PR4GTs perfectly OK, but I'm not convinced they are an improvement over the PR3s I used previously. They were more expensive however .....
