Dash lights fading off...

Hi all,
New 08 ex police bike owner. Have ridden a few hundred miles, but today whilst riding in pretty bad rain ( no idea if connected or not...!) the lights on the dash and LCD backlight all went off. Then came back on. Then went off.
And so on.
As time went on, they were certainly more off than on, and at the moment, appear to be off.
Is this a known issue? Any idea where the problem might be?
Any ideas or pointer most definitely welcome

Anyone got hints to get the dash itself out? Had the faring off at the weekend to fix a headlight connection, but getting the dash out seemed more of a challenge!

Now, to find out what an 'e' clip is...!

It's a clip which fits over a peg (3 off) to secure the dash to the frame work, see #6 (removal) & #17 (install).

This is an LED Taillight unit for a GS, item #4 is the Securing (E) clip, same Part No. as that for the Dash on the RT.
