Good find

Post by Bhahn »

Came across a 2007 r1200rt just over 161.000 miles. New to BMW's understand they are a reliable motorcycle. Rode a Kawasaki Conours for 12yrs til a deer total it. It was a good bike. So any problems I should be aware of? The reviews for it looked good.

well, 160,000 is a LOT of miles. the general feeling about all 1200 BMWs is that the engine poses no real problems and can last for miles, but other expensive problems can occur, namely ... the clutch wearing out (or oil leaking into the clutch and contaminating it),final shaft drive problems, and suspension problems.

the fuel strip often goes wrong on these bikes, and hence the fuel reading goes wrong. just set the trip counter at zero when you fill up and you should get 270-300 miles from a full tank of fuel

i don't think the 2007 RTs had many other problems

oh, and don't "slip the clutch", or "ride the clutch".

it's a dry clutch, so try to ride with it either 'fully in', or 'fully out'. it will last longer than way

California highway patrol keeps theirs to 150,000 miles, multiple clutch changes during that time. Most hate their new Harley’s by the way
