Rt1200. 2009 model. Rider footpegs

Post by Jonathon7457 »

Hi. Iv'e read a few posts on here. Bar-seat-footpeg allignement.
I am

51 yrs. 105 kg. 5ft 11. 32 leg.
After 90 min's max on the Rd I am in discomfort. Bad discomfort. Sets in at around 50 min mark
From my knee and bum. Everything else ok.
Can anyone give any advice on rider peg locator which moves the pegs down roughly 1 inch. Has anyone done this. As I believe it' harder on the 09 models than the newer ones. Any other tips greatly appreciated.
Oh. And does anyone recommend a better replacement screen over stock as I find stock screen very noisy.
Other than that. The bike is fantastic. Everything seems quality. I've got the LE version with sound system includes cd player. Sat navigation. It' a great bike.
I did a trip to Scotland recently. Luckily I pre purchased a Air Hawk. And had the  seat set at high. This gave me a range of 300 - 350 before I'd had enough with numb bum and thighs.  But could not have achieved this without the seat pad. I stopped every 90 min's for a leg stretch. I would like to make this bike more comfortable for me. Or should I consider a K1600 or (dare I say it) gold wing.
I live in Norfolk. UK.
Many thanks all.
Jonny

Hi Jonny, you have described my situation exactly ie. same bike and same problem. I would also be interested to know if anyone has solved the 'dead leg' after 90min on the bike issue. On one three day trip I had a loan of a 1994 R80 and had no problem riding the bike for hours. I think the reason for the enjoyable ride on the R80 was due to the very narrow tank on that bike. Regards.

Hi Frank. Thanks for your reply.
I'm still finding my way around this site.
Don't really want to sell the bike. However I will have to do something. Nothing more frustrating than having a touring bike that hurts to tour on.

i am the same height and inside leg as you and i find it helps if it I ride with my heels on the pegs, and get my arse as far back on the seat as possible. of course this only works when you don't need to change gear or use the rear brake very often

i have this screen, which is better than the stock one

i have previously had one of these, which was also good (the extra large version)

Because I'm on the 'slightly' shorter side, using the low seat in the low position puts me in the same situation - I'm just too damn close to the footpegs.

I'm considering these:

Purchase the mount, one of 3 different length extension plates, and compatible footpegs, and it'll cost about the same as the Wunderlich footpeg lowering brackets (for me in Canada, at least).

The nice thing with this system is that the extension plates can rotate around the mount, so you can adjust the footpegs fore/aft as well as up/down to find the most comfortable position.

Many thanks to all who replied :)
I'll let you know how I get on re pegs and windshield.
And to be a pain on one more. I will change the seat. Read lots about this and narrows it down to this list.
Sargent.
Corbin.
Touratec
And recently I read on here a guy who had his seat re done with foam and shaping from custom seats in Coventry.
Anyone made a noticeable difference by changing their seat ?
Thanks again all.

personally i prefer a seat that i can 'move around' on. some of the aftermarket seats lock you in one position (especially if they have are a "bench" style seat) and thus causing knee/leg pain

I had a seat for my 90th anniversary RT modified by Elite Comfort Seats - http://www.sussexmotorcycles.com/elite- ... seats.html
It was raised, made slightly flatter and given less of a slope down to the front. I sat about 1" higher and it did improve knee (and backside) comfort over distance.

Regards,

Yeah I've got them on mine and they do make a difference (not massively), I'd rather have them than not.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Hi simbo, thanks. By the way does anyone know if fitting lower foot pegs is considered a change to the bike that could affect your insurance cover, in the event of an accident, if you didn't inform the insurance company in advance. Regards
