2012 RT

Anyone gone from a 2012RT to the new RT LC ?
If so how much of an improvement is it,  I went for a ride on my 2012 yesterday and thought...  Christ do I really need to swap to the RT LC as I love my bike and can't fault it.
I'm due to part ex as soon as the new suspension is fitted,  but as someone mentioned earlier, wait til sept 1st for the new reg,
So to those lucky enough to have put some miles on the new RT.... Is it worth upgrading ?

They are as different as chalk and cheese.

Not much detail there but its a start,  I was guessing it would be the same as the 2012 except with a general improvement on everything  eg,  a bit faster, better mpg etc (not including the water cooling)
Are you saying its nothing like the earlier version?

The only thing that's the same on the 2014 one is the name. Frame, engine, suspensions , clocks, seats, luggage all new.  Lots borrowed from the 1600s.

Well it depends what you mean by improvement.
I have both a new 2017 and a wonderful 2003 1150RT.
For me the only improvement is the engine and fuel consumption (a little bit).
2017...Comfort - less. Lights - about the same. Radio - no different. Suspension - harsher. Handling - Not majorly any different. Ground clearance - Better than the 1150. Ergonomics - much poorer. Aero protection - much poorer. Ease of cleaning - MUCH poorer. Time to strip bodywork off - way longer. Adding accessories - harder because all the time you have to consider the Canbus/Linbus influece. The new bike seems to suck up WAY MORE money than the older bike.


You might think I am disappointed? Well, In truth, I am. However, I have both and can still enjoy the charms of the 1150.


But here's the thing. I didn't buy the Hexhead or the Camhead for similar reasons. I thought I could never live with the styling and the meagre power increase. The New RTW will wipe the floor when compared to any of the aforementioned bikes in the power delivery stakes....
...but there is much more to a bike than just the power delivery.
The bottom line? You will have to ride both and make the comparison.

It's an old post (2014)..  I did part ex my 2012 for a 2014
Still miss the 2012 and if I had the money I would have both,  however I'm soon to swap again for another new one,  due here in December

sure, the power will be more, a bit more nifty. But is that worth an extra £3,000, for a bike that does two foreign trips a year? probably not

I traded in a 2013 RT SE for a 2017(MY)LE one year ago.
The 2013 bike was great, the best of the air cooled 1200s in my opinion. I did a lot of miles on it over three years and it gave no trouble.
The newer bike feels more modern, quicker and with more tech (quick-shifter, automatic lights, wonder wheel, cornering ABS etc etc). If it proves to be as reliable as it's predecessor I'll be as pleased as Punch !! :kacsint2:
