Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
Following problems not being able to update from 5.6.1.0 to 5.6.2.0, thought I'd just check GE again.
A month ago, Version 5.7.0.0 was posted on here as being available.
"Low & behold", without doing anything except connecting to GE, I'm now up to date with Version 5.7.1.0.
Perhaps some Versions of GE just don't work with certain PC software, it's all too technical for me.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
GE Version 5.8.0.0 is now available, once again, it won't update on my PC.
Is it possible that not all GE Versions are compatible with all PC software.
Having recently updated Garmin maps to 2018.20, will leave well alone & see what happens in the future.

Hey David. Still having this problem ? Not sure if this will help but I had to delete a cache folder in my Garmin folder before the update would run. Let me see if I can find the link. Hope I can.
Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
Awesome. Found it. Your problem might not be the same as mine though. Just remembered I was struggling to get the new version of Garmin Express to open at all. Here is the link to possible solutions https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/9G1aJHKuFmAr5AcXDyFS87
‘Delete the Garmin Express configuration files’ is what worked for me.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
Thanks for your reply Greg. Not being very PC savvy, I'm nervous & reluctant to press buttons without understanding what the consequences are.
In my case, GE will launch & run OK, have recently updated maps to 2018.20.
Currently running GE Version 5.7.1.0, when an update to 5.8.0.0 is available.
As in the OP, GE updated itself without me doing anything, will be interesting to see what happens if a GE Version 5.8.1.0 comes out.
Whilst the maps are up to date, will leave things alone.
Would appreciate any future notice of map updates for Zumo 660's, that way I'll know whether maps can be updated without the latest version of GE being installed, thanks.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
Just updated Express to 5.8.0.0 with no problems
I have never had a problem with updating any of the Garmin software, including maps to both my 660 and Nav V.
I'm running Windows 10 on an Acer Asppire laptop.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
Any & all replies are welcome, perhaps a theme may develop which helps me to understand what's going on.
Barry, as you have both a 660 & Nav V, are you able to confirm which maps are on each device.
Is it true that the Nav V maps are updated more frequently than those for the 660, if so, how often.
Looking back at my BaseCamp & MapSource maps, over the last 4 years, the maps have been updated twice per year for a 660, the latest being 2018.20 NT.
I'm running Windows 7, could that be my problem.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
David, off the cuff I would say that they are both runnng the latest and the same(?) version, as I seem to remember that I update both when an update is shown.
I will dig them out and check.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
As I thought, both running CN Europe NT 2018.10 the 660 also has the 3D loaded.
As I was checking them, both had disappeared from Garmin Express, they were there 10 minutes previous, so I had to re-add them.
Both needed updates to 2018.20. The 660 file is 5.63GB and the Nav V is 7.29GB.
Hope this helps as it's confused me.
lol

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
My understanding is that the BMW Nav V can use NTU maps & the Garmin Zumo 660 uses NT maps.
NTU map updates have become available more frequently than those for NT maps, hence the question.
Found this on the BMWLT Forum,
"Garmin now have two sorts of maps. The latest map versions are updated up to 4 times a year, and the older sort (the GPS I have - BMW Navigator IV or Garmin 660 with a different badge - uses the older sort) appears to be updated twice a year."

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
It's frustrating not understanding why some GE updates work & some don't.
If you are aware of any future NT map updates, please post, thanks. That way, I'll know if having the latest GE Version update really matters.
At the end of the day, I suppose I'm just trying to gain the confidence that, without the latest GE Version update, I'll still receive the latest map updates.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.7.1.0
A Garmin Express update to 5.9.0.0 is now available, it failed to install on my PC.
Got the error message, Garmin Express is not compatible with your operating system.
A "Google Search" came up with, https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en ... 0cPjioY2s5
With a little trepidation, followed the link & decided to disable the compatibility mode, looks like it's done the trick, 5.9.0.0 now installed.

Thanks .... Updated
Have you checked that your anti-virus or firewall is not blocking the download?
I was born with nothing and unfortunately I still have most of it left.

The GE update is now installed, if necessary, how do I check that the download is not being blocked.stayingupright wrote:Have you checked that your anti-virus or firewall is not blocking the download?
What I have noticed since disabling the compatibility mode is that the blue & yellow shield has disappeared from the GE icon on my desktop.
I think this has something to do with "Run as administrator" whatever that means.
Although the shield has gone, I still get the "User Account Control" dialog box asking, "Do you want to allow the following programme to make changes to this computer".
Looks like it could be something to do with UAC settings and not too important.
The shield is there on the BaseCamp desktop icon & the same UAC dialog box appears when opening the shortcut.
