They did it as a special as the workshop was a bit quiet and the bike is over 5 years old, it all came to £250 parts and labour.

Done some DIY servicing today. Checked valve clearances, replaced spark plugs & air filter and changed gearbox oil.

Presumably, the valve clearances were still OK?

Good days work David before it gets cold. Did mine a week ago. Good to see my valve clearances were still all within specification at 50k. Just one job left to do before winter sets in and that's check and lube the pesky exhaust valve.

Yes, after another 5,350 miles, there was no change in the clearances and all were within spec.

Still got to change the rear wheel drive oil (180ml). Although this isn't due until 43K or next year, decided to do it early and bring it inline with the gearbox oil (700ml),  1 litre does both.

The BMW dealer will be doing an oil & filter change plus engine synchronisation next week.

I spent over 7 years as a Parts Manager in a BMW dealership and saw some horrors on work done by independents. But each to his own.
I had a new engine fitted under warranty at Lind Norwich after four years I decided to remove the crash bars that were fitted and refitted by them that's when I found out one of the main engine bolts had been crammed in cross threaded needles to say the bike has never been back >:( would never use main dealer or independent all service work is easy for the home mechanic, and you know the job has been done correctly see my previous posts for other Lind errors.
