Rear Diff. Thrust Bearing

The FD Unit to Swinging Arm pivot has two bearings, they are the same for all 1200 RT's from 2004 to 2017.

The inner bearing is a Needle sleeve, Part No. 33117684640, costs £12.42.

The outer bearing is an Angular ball bearing, Part No. 33117665037, costs £32.40.

Has anyone got or have access to the bearing manufacturer & bearing code which is usually stamped on the side of the bearing, or cross-reference.
In the past, have purchased wheel bearings for around a fiver each, a fraction of the cost of OEM.

Have e-mailed details of the outer bearing to a local bearing supplier, asking for availability & cost.

On this occasion, the bearing would have to be ordered in & costs around the same as OEM, therefore it's back to BMW for this one.

Useful video for checking play on the bearings here David. I removed the speedo sensor (easy job) when lubing the shaft splines & changing FD oil on mine, but doing something like this could be an excellent opportunity to check for play in the bearings whilst the diff is hanging free  8)

Thanks Simbo, I fail to see how Cooper BMW Sunderland have diagnosed play in the bearings without dropping the FD unit as in the video.

My intention is to get a second opinion by having the bike MOT'd in April at Barrie Robson BMW (York),  if it passes without any advisories, I'm tempted to leave well alone.

Have spoken to AJ's for an opinion on play in the bearings.

They have confirmed that any movement in the swinging arm, pivot or FD unit bearings etc. can be detected in situ, as during an MOT test.

AJ's have very kindly offered to check around the swinging arm/FD unit FOC, like a pre-MOT check.

Think I'll take them up on this offer & go from there.

Called in at AJ's today, one of their MOT testers checked the FD unit bearings etc., they could find nothing wrong with it.

Will get the bike MOT'd locally for £20 & leave well alone.
