Changing seat??

Post by Graeme D »

Hi
As a newbie I need some more advice. I have a 2005 model with a one piece seat, I like the look of the two piece seats, can I just do a straight swap??

Hi Graeme when I swapped from the separate rider and pillion seats to the bench/comfort seat I had to remove two plastic lugs from the under the seat, do you have those?

A one piece seat usually means that the two piece seat fittings have been removed to accommodate the single seat.

To go back to the standard two seat set-up, the front height adjuster (bar & bobbins above the battery) needs to be replaced, together with the seat posts fittings (behind the rear brake fluid reservoir). Although the seat shown is a Corbin, the BMW seat uses the same fittings.

The one piece seat you have is the extra low seat. Keep in mind, any other seat will raise the seat at least 1"
or 2.4 cm. Some seats will not require the posts screwed just behind the battery. But OEM seats will. Good luck
finding the seat you like!

Not sure for 'new' but eBay or Facebook page 'BMW Club/Buy/Sell/wanted' would be good for 'used' ones.

For new, probably looking at £££'s from the BMW Dealer.

Motorworks are another source of used seats at reasonable prices.

Thanks again for the info, your advice made it easy to investigate the subject.
I have now got the height adjuster and brackets, and have ordered a new Sargent (front/rear) standard seat, I now also have a full tool kit for the bike.
I hope you all have a happy New Year, and ride safe.
Cheers
Graeme.
