Introduction

Post by Murgie »

Hi everyone.  Another newbie here.  I live in West Virginia (USA) where all there is to ride, are twisties.

I have been waiting for almost a month to test ride a R1200.  Weather has not cooperated at all.  I have to be sure that I fit the ergo's of this bike before putting down the money.  I rode Goldwings for the last twenty years and now I feel like it is time for something new and lighter.  I am hoping the R1200 is easier on tires than the Wings have been.  I am somewhat performance oriented so my tire life takes a pretty hard hit.  For you guys that like to play, what kind of tire life are you getting?

I have picked red as its the fastest color.

Welcome, tyre life depends really on how hard you ride  8)  I only normally get around 6-7k out of a set.

Welcome.  I ride fairly aggressively, and on my '08 RT running Michelin Pilot Road 4 (and recently the 5's) I get ~8k miles, usually get 1k more on front vs rear.

I’ll agree with Caspar, 6-7 thousand miles, PR4’s are my current choice. My problem has always been at the 7 point tires have plenty of life, just when i’am planning a longer ride so they get changed early, usually save the old ones for friends in need

Agree with all the comments on tyre wear here.  Mine usually last around 7k.  Usually get changed because they have squared off rather than the air showing through.

7 or 8 thousand mile would be like triple the mileage I am getting now.  Looking forward to that.

I'm seeing if I can get mine to 10k, 400 to go on  set of Bridgestone BT023, have about 1.6mm left. Only me and a topbox most of the time, so not loaded but ridden reasonably hard within the speed limits:), haven't pulled a wheelie except on a wet white line.
thanks and regards, Ganesh

Your only getting around 2.5k miles out of your tyres?
Christ..  I couldn't afford to ride if I had to change my tyres so often
