2018 - Northern Monkeys Meets

Post by David. »

Following on from the success of having a monthly (April to October) ride out during 2017, thoughts now turn to 2018.

I'm happy to consider planning & leading ride outs if folks are interested in attending. Any thoughts on themes/destinations would be most welcome.

So far, Ice Cream Parlours & Railway Stations have been suggested. Routes are available to accommodate these requests.

If there is any particular ride done this year (2017),  which you would like to do again next year (2018),  obviously, these are "in the bank".

If anyone feels the urge to arrange a day ride or weekend away etc., please feel free to do so, "the more the merrier".

If Canals are of any interest, could visit locations at Standedge Tunnel, Hebden Bridge & Skipton, hopefully with some great roads in between.

Could always repeat the ride to the Waterways Museum near Goole, then down the River Trent to Gainsborough & back to Selby.

Although a little flat, I seem to remember it was quite entertaining, see Paggers video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_p4jr_5-o8

Extending that theme, RAF Waddington is a few miles away, just the other side of Lincoln. Used to see the AWACs lined up there a few years ago, now other surveillance aircraft are employed. This was the base from which the Vulcan which bombed Port Stanley runway in the Falklands conflict took off. There is a viewing area just off the A15 close to the end of the long runway which the Vulcans used to use (the runway, not the viewing area). Again RAF Coningsby near Tattershall Castle, a little further afield, now a Typhoon fighter base, is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial flight.
All connected by damn fine biking.

There are possibilities.

Unfortunately, due to lack of interest/availability, there was not a ride out in April.

Rides are planned & there to be ridden.

Last year (2017) we went out on a Saturday, it has been suggested that this be changed to a Sunday. Picking a date early in the month gives alternatives later if the weather is not conducive. I appreciate & respect that lots of folks prefer to do their own thing & not ride with a group. Personally, I like to ride with others, enjoying the interaction whilst riding & social at the P&T stops.

If there is an appetite for future ride outs, that's fine.

Any comments and/or observations would be most welcome in an attempt to revive a monthly NM ride out.

Fire away!

Thanks for your positive response Michael, please keep me posted on your availability, if it's a goer, I'll start a new thread for May.

That's more like it, will see what can be done on the weekend of either 12th or 13th May.
