Has anyone run into instructions or have removed the ECU on a Twin Cam? I am thinking to use the postal Hilltop remap service but am not sure what the best way is to remove it (once I even find it). I was hoping not to have to remove the fuel tank but thinking that it must live there. Any advice would be welcome.
ECU Removal for remap - TC
Re: ECU Removal for remap - TC
Sounds like an odd thing to do to me. I thought the whole point of a re-map was to have it mapped to a bike running on a rolling road. Thereby its mapped for your engine wear etc...
Re: ECU Removal for remap - TC
Apparently they (Hilltop) have done enough TCs that they have a good understanding of the mapping issues for these bikes and it was suggested to me that the Dyno runs are more for vanity. I love my TC but do a lot of city riding and the fuelling is quite poor for this. I have a lot of projects at home this summer and would rather not waste a whole day schlepping up to Hinchley and back. Happy to report back the results if I can find the ECU.

The ECU is indeed located underneath the central electronics (ZFE) unit and requires the fuel tank to be removed for access.
Having spoken to Hilltop, I got the same answer about the dyno runs. Hilltop said, "the ECU Remapping software is written after having set up thousands of Boxer Twins".
If you're not looking to illustrate bhp or torque gains and trust Hilltop know what they are doing with respect to AFR, why pay £60 for a piece of paper.
I'd be very interested to know how you get on with having your ECU remapped & whether or not it was £300 well spent.
