R1200RT (BMW) Top Box
Hi all. I am looking to purchase a BMW top box for my 1200RT (2017). I believe it is possible to source one cheaper than via BMW Motorrad but I haven't been able to find this. The cheapest I've seen from BMW is £442 (Ouch!) for a 49L box - can anybody help me beat this?
It seems the top box is only available in aluminium / silver colour but I think I've heard people say they have got theirs painted to match the bodywork and panniers. Is this possible and is it a good idea and a quality finish?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Matt

Got mine with the bike. Cost more than £442 from dealer. They got it sprayed matching colour.

Re: R1200RT (BMW) Top Box
Hi Matt,
I think that the £442 top box may be the 'pre-LC' version? It fits perfectly well and is a good box, but if you have central locking on your bike, then the earlier topbox doesn't have that function available, or the opportunity to add a high-level brake light.
For details of the 'LC' (and K1600) topbox, see my posting in an earlier thread: viewtopic.php?t=0.msg42244#msg42244
Hope this helps.
Sadly, as is almost always the case, BMW = Bring More Wallet!

Best price I've seen is from KFM Motorrader online. I bought one and they shipped to the states for less than half the cost of the dealership. They are new BMW replacement parts, identical to what you'd get from the dealer.

Would a non-BMW Top Box be an option. Had a GIVI V46 on my first R1200RT with a colour co-ordinated cover for the lid.
Here's a GIVI rack for sale,

Motorworks have used ones for £260 - possibly a good idea if you are also considering a re-spray.

I have one which was on my 14 plate LC. Wrote bike off but didn't have topbox on it at the time. It has 1 key with it and I'm looking for £375 for it if your interested. I also have some cylinder head covers.
