28 litre topbox

Post by MikeS »

Does anybody know if the BMW 28 litre topbox will fit the 1250 RT rack? I think it fits the 1200 but don't know if the racks changed on the later version. I assume it can be coded to the bike's key. I'm not keen on the look (or price) of the large box.

Thanks

Part no. for the 28ltr box is 77 43 7 724 352.

If you look here -  https://www.bmw-motorrad-bohling.com/uk/motorcycle-luggage/r-1250-rt.html it's listed as fitting the 1250RT.

Assuming the 28 litre top box is the one fitted to 2010RT model can confirm.  The lock has to be changed to suit the new key and it will not work with central locking but saves a small fortune  . Picking 1250 up today along with top box with changed lock, if anything more to add will post.

Whoops, two 'senior' moments in above post!  Wrong quote inserted and original top box for 2010's must be bigger than 28 litres!  However suspect the same re fitting applies

The answer is still yes.
No central locking, but will need re-keying to suit.
I like the 28L box.

Thanks for the replies. Not fussed about central locking, will only use it occasionally for longer trips.

Still waiting for the dealer to give me a call about picking the bike up then I'll price the box up.

Mike

You plan on using the top box only for longer trips. For me the 28L box would not give sufficient extra space for the longer trips.

I have a old BMW 49 litre box which stays on the bike permanently and the panniers only go on for longer trips. For long trips I would be looking at something around the 50L size from Givi, Kappa or Shad. Some of the big Givi boxes even have a remote control locking option.

Does it matter what the case looks like if it's hardly ever going to be mounted?
