R1200RTW Fork Seal Replacement

Post by clashmin »

I recently purchased a high mile (96,000 mile) R1200RTW 2014. I need to replace one fork seal and am looking to see if anyone has some experience doing this. I watched a few video's but they were of pre-water cooled RT's. On those bikes it is pretty easy as the handlebar side is removable (right or left or both) but on the 2014 the handlebar assy is one piece which makes it more difficult to just drop one tube. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I believe if you remove the brake caliper(s), front fender so that you can remove the offending fork tube. As there isn't anything stopping the stopping the Slider Tube coming off the stanchion. Replace the seal(s) & reinstall in reverse.I did this a couple of times on my K1200LT (06)Image

If there are any bronze bushings as well as seals replace the bushings as they wear and seals will not last long, I found that out rebuilding K1100 forks, twice.

Looked on realoem.com, part number 5 look like the bushing the stantion runs on, if they are worn there will be pressure on one side of seal, will wear prematurely
