So, order placed  :enjoying:
When I came to my local dealer to tell them that I had better offer elsewhere, they stand up for it and gave me a slight better one, so I stick with them.

I think it was worth travel 100 miles yesterday to the other dealer, as I got some good outcome from the time I spent on it.
I probably can play once more in other dealer, but I thought that I will just get very little gain at that point anyway.

Hi Arek,


I went through a very similar process when I chose my R1200RT in 2015.


To take your points in order;


I'm short in the leg - 28" inside leg and I get on fine with the standard seat in the low position but I appreciate that this is a very personal choice.


LE and dynamic are good choices and the top-box is cavernous and a quality item that leads into...


Keyless option!  Like you I took the view that I'd coped this long with a key so why bother?  So I stuck to my guns and kept to the standard key.  I regretted that choice virtually from day one.  The truth is that keyless or not you'll end up with a large fob to operate the remote central locking and alarm plus your conventional key.  You might as well have a single "keyless" fob and enjoy the benefits of keyless - several friends have bought GSs in recent times and all have gone keyless and all really like it and they don't even get central locking.


Audio is a waste of time for three reasons in my view.  Firstly it's bloody expensive, secondly you get much better audio though an intercom system and finally I believe it removes the digital speedo display option (which is really useful in my view).


Regarding your Tom Tom options I can't help - I have a BMW Nav V which fits perfectly and operates well even though it doesn't have any security system like the GS offers.


Regards dealers I have always had really good service and acceptable deals from Wollaston BMW in Northampton.


I hope that helps.  The 1250 is certainly a lovely engine as is the RT bike, they just need to update the specification to make it attractive enough for me to change.  A TFT screen with integrated sat-nav and LED headlights would do it for me!

The audio option doesn't remove the digital speedo, at least not on my 1250. Just think of the plusses - you get that oh so useful second "locker", a beautiful aerial sticking up at the front - but mostly when the battery in your helmet comms has expired you can get nav instructions through the speakers - just watch out for pedestrians suddenly turning left or right :))

Edit - my mistake, the digital speedo does disappear if the radio is on.  :(

Apart of the above, it is totally waste of the money in my opinion, especially in the era of BT comms with RDS radio, up to 15 person communication, voice commands to your phone, and the music you want (anything you have installed in phone).


Anyway, for keyless option. After all the bike which was available do not have it, I will not regret that, maybe next time. But I think and the most important it was my wife request the SOS button is a good option. Especially when you pay once and you have this feature enabled all the time.
So there is SOS service in my new bike too.

Well the first time you loose that key less fob when you are 700 miles from home you would wish you had a key!
I just had the pleasure.  My girl on her Vulcan 650 S, her father on his 16 RT, and myself on a 17 GS, go to the BMW MOA Rally 700 miles away and we do it in one day.  So we get to the motel I shut my bike off, realize I want it somewhere else, go to start it, push the button and get a big red something or other on the right corner of the dash.
I know what that means I have somehow lost my key fob! 

We had hit rain so we stopped to put rain suits on, must have not secured the fob on the key holder on my belt.  The bike did start at that stop so the fob must have landed close enough to the bike to start it so I never thought anymore about it.

So I walk over to Patricia and ask for the plastic emergency key as I always carry a spare set of keys with someone else when we travel.
So on a GS the antenna is a round indentation under the rear seat in the rear wheel well.  So I can not figure out how to hold the key and push the button at the same time.  I remove the rear seat see what I believe to be the unit hold the key there and nothing.  So every place we went I would hold the key in place under the rear fender and ask someone to push the button on for me.  What a PITA!
I did figure out I could reach through the side up into the fender and reach the button so it became a one man show and that was a lot better for me. 

I would have liked the simplicity of a spare key without question.
Ironic I have a second fob I bought with the bike but always carry the plastic as I figure if I lost one fob loosing the second would be enough to put me over the edge. 

Around a 200 dollar mistake.
I think the RT is lower right of your dash?  I think I tried it to do it on my RT and you pivot the dash up as far as you can and then hold the key in the lower right corner?
And you guys with keyless and a plastic fob should "practice" at home so you know what to expect on the road.

If I could have a do over I would give back Key Less, Hill Assist, and SAP with no problem at all.

On my 2014, if you had audio on, the radio gubbins was displayed on the screen and the digital speedo went away, if you wanted to see the digital speedo, you had to have audio off. Don't know on my 1250 as I didn't go for audio this time

The red key goes central above the dash, like you say tilt it and slip it in, easy, sales bloke showed me before i picked the bike up. I have had keyless on two Harley and now my 1250 and like it, and as long as you carry the red key, there is no issue. You could of course pay £193 for another fob, but you could just lose that as well :)

As I said, keyless maybe next time. This one come with standard ignition key.
As I never used keyless, it will not make any difference for me at all.

You have to be careful with the key and the fob, as it can quite often scratch the headstock as the fob dangles from the key. I put black tape around the edges of my fob to try and stop it scratching, with various degrees of success. Some have a pouch with the fob in and just the key sticking out.

Yeah, had that with all my bikes. Just learned to have only key with some soft keyring, and the rest of stuff keep in pocket. Doing it for years, never lost key, or the other bits.
So if the fob can be detached from the key. That will be probably the first thing I do. And will keep fob in pocket.

Sorry my mistake - you're quite right, if the audio is actually on the digital speedo is not.  Not a great problem as I'm unlikely to ride with the audio on but annoying nonetheless.

I will be collecting my RT.

That is quick, I ordered mine in Jan and it didn't get delivered until April :)

I cheated a bit  8) . Took one from UK stock list which was in the spec I wanted, except low seat. then added seat to it :D
