gear indicator

Post by rmcelroy24@comcast.net »

My 05 RT has had a long history with issues from the potentiometer that controls the gear position indicator. Its mounted on the back of the trans,  above and forward of the swingarm pivot. Initially I actually dropped the bike twice thinking the bike was in neutral and letting the clutch out. I've had it replaced twice by the dealer at a cost of 300 to 400 bucks each time. It still acts up and I deal with it, using AFT spray aerosol to make sure its dry, especially after washing or riding in the rain. If it weren't interconnected with the start/neutral switch and the side-stand lockout circuit it would be easier to deal with but I wonder about BMW's corporate refusal to provide some solution, despite my numerous contacts with them. I guess they figure I should just trade in for a newer bike.
