Indicators (Turn Signals)

Post by gogs01 »

I have owned a 2008, 2010, 2013 and (currently) a 2016 (2017MY) R1200RT.
Therefore, I should know the answer to the question I'm going to ask, but my memory isn't even as good as it used to be - and that wasn't great !
When did the indicator operation change from the old BMW system "left handlebar switch for left, right handlebar switch for right and up to cancel"  to the more common single switch on the left handlebar ?
I thought it was 2010, but I'm hearing of a 2011 RT with the old BMW system.

I had a 2010 Twincam and it had the new single indicator switch on the LHS handlebar.

The last seven digits of the VIN number for the 2011 RT would help to determine it's production date, https://www.mdecoder.com/

My 2010 RT has single switch on left side. If you read reviews for the 2010 model it appears this is the year they made the switch. Too bad they didn't get rid of the fuel strip until mid year production...
