Spliting brake callipers
Has anybody ever split the callipers for the purpose of changing the pistons/sealsNoticed on Motorworks website that on the page where you order the pistons there is a warning advising not to split the callipers as they may not seal again!!!Anybody got experience of this?Chris...

Re: Spliting brake callipers
Have a look at this thread, Front brake piston service, viewtopic.php?t=0
The pistons/seals can be changed without splitting the calliper.
Bike Torque Racing may be able to offer some advice, https://www.biketorqueracing.co.uk/
The calliper halves "O" rings are available, just a case of getting the correct one.

This guy has, GS (same as RT) caliper overhaul, chrismckay wrote:Has anybody ever split the calipers for the purpose of changing the pistons/seals.
No mention of a new "O" ring between the two halves, looks like the old one was re-used.
Looks a lot more difficult with Brembo Monoblock calipers,

Re: Spliting brake callipers
The OEM BMW Part No. 34112338257 is a Repair set brake caliper (D=32/36MM) as per Motorworks too.
Ted Porter's BeemerShop do a caliper rebuild kit which replaces the BMW OEM part,
https://www.beemershop.com/product/ei-b ... tment.html
The kit shows three small "O" rings, for the caliper halves.
If the calipers are split, the Motorworks link for the "O" ring is this,
https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop ... Q=FUA54739
But, how many are required, three or one, the video only mentions one, I'm confused.com.

Re: Spliting brake callipers
Some great links in those posts Dave.
The problem I was having is that one out of eight of the front caliper pistons would not move under normal operation of the brakes, thus i was considering a piston rebuild. However by securing the other seven pistons and using the brake lever hydraulic pressure against the isolated stuck piston I got it to move, after working back and forth it is now free, although not as free moving as the others. I will run the bike once the weather is nicer for a few hundred miles then have another look.
thanks for the help
