Vehicle Tax Refund - SORN

Coming up to the end of March, how many vehicles out there are now not being used. Both my bikes are currently SORN'ed and my car tax is only £30, it may need to be used.

With the ease of taxing a vehicle online these days when next being used, the DVLA may be inundated with issuing refund cheques.

I know a guy who has multiple vehicles, a Jaguar car costing him £50 per month, needless to say, he's cashing it in.

Just curious does sorn affect your no claims accrual with your insurance.

The insurance policy is not being cancelled. Whilst my bikes are SORN'ed and garaged, they remain insured, just not being ridden. Hence NCB accrual will continue.

"You do not need to insure your vehicle if it is kept off the road and declared as off the road (SORN)."

A vehicle must have motor insurance if it is not SORN'ed. However, the insurance can continue when SORN'ed, thus maintaining cover & NCB.

Just don't cancel the insurance, simples!

I took my GS for an MOT yesterday, I'll keep it SORN'ed but ready just incase anything happens to my Strom. I've also got the RT & Bonneville SORN'ed. I have got a car which is Taxed  till December, but that's a different story.


Ps. On a side note. When I took the GS for it's MOT yesterday, I noticed that I got a few head shakes and eye rolls whilst travelling there and back. I wonder why?.

Mine ran out in January, hence the reason for taking it for a new one yesterday.

No, going to SORN both bikes today. Can't see being able to go riding for at least a month, possibly more.

Yes. Only to commute to and from work and any necessary trips I need to make though. No riding for fun.

If you pay 12 months in full upfront, it's £91 per year for an RT, a saving of £7.58 per month when cashed in.

The savings are greater if you pay 2 x 6 months or by DD, not sure if the pro-rata refunds are based on this increased amount.
