Honda Moly 60 is the absolute best, reviewed by many and used at many different dealers. ..but I hear it’s unfortunately discontinued if anyone can find it or a substitute, I’d like to know too as I’m running low.

Re: What grease on final drive splines
The manual calls for a hard to find spline lube... Castrol Optimol TA. I've used it for 10yrs and have found that IF and WHEN moisture gets into you the Paralever tunnel it does not protect very well against rust or seizure between the drive shaft and the FD splines.
Recently I've started using the same as the previous posters...the Honda M77. It is easier to find and a little goes a long way...one little tube will probably do 20 services.
If you have not done the service on the WetHead before, here is a video I made to cover the Final Drive service.

Or, you can start the complete series of 6 videos from the beginning.

Please be sure to click on the "Show More" in the Details of each video to see an explanation or special links to tools used or work assists to complete the service.
Hope this helps!

For those in the US, Beemershop sells a specific spline lube in various sizes. I don't know if they ship overseas.

This is what BMW use for the spline, Castrol Molub-Alloy Paste TA.

Re: What grease on final drive splines
Recently replaced the FD unit and shaft on my XJ650. A.n.other very kindly provided some Honda Moly 60 to lubricate the splines prior to assembly.
My understanding is that this Honda product is no longer available and may have been replaced by M77.
The BMW (Castrol) recommended product is Molub-Alloy (TM) Paste TA, previously named Optimol (TM) Paste TA, see Product Data, BPXE-9T98FZ.pdf (castrol.com)
Smith and Allan at Darlington sell the latter on ebay for £10 or collection in store, Castrol Optimol Paste TA High Temperature Hot Screw Paste Anti-Seize 100g Tube | eBay
This is around £5 less than purchasing the same stuff from BMW.

Re: What grease on final drive splines
While ive always recommended Smith and Allen for their oils and grease but in my case regarding shaft drives I've always used HT marine grease and paste. Not only is it waterproof but is meant to be able to stand higher temperatures than normal car/bike HT oils and paste. I also use grease for the head and swingarm bearing. Can cost a little more but my tub has lasted over 5 years and still has plenty left for a few more years.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
