Hi folks
Im going to be shortly moving over to the dark side (Basically changing manufacturer) and some of my surplus stuff is heading to Fleabay,,,
My trouble is i have a 49lt topbox sweetened to my key,so i cant sell it without,
How can i disengage the lock on the top box so it opens the grab handle as i dont want to flirt out £40 dabs for a fixed key
Thanks
Rick
Top box dilemma
Re: Top box dilemma
Don't know the answer but if you are selling you top box and it has central locking I'd buy it off you without a key barrrel. If we can agree a price, obvs.

If it is the old style 49l top box rather than the more recent K1600 style top box.Rick B wrote:I have a 49l top box.
"You need to remove the lock cylinder first so the new owner will be able to inexpensively re-key the top case to match their bike's key".

This video shows how to install a lock into a new style K1600 top case, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU6Sn_6Ge8M
I know you need to remove the lock barrel, but it's a start.
On this occasion, it might just be worth asking your local BMW dealer to pop the lock out for you.

Have a look at this thread from K1600 Forum, https://www.k1600forum.com/threads/chan ... tem.93681/Rick B wrote:Just need to take the barrel out.
"Turns out, it is fairly simple to pull the cylinder. The key doesn't need to be in place; the cylinder just needs to be in the unlocked position.
This allows you to rekey it even if you don't have the original key as long as it is unlocked."
