TPMS: Pressure sensor in wheel

I have had the rear wheel renovated, due to corrosion, and the company has just told me the tyre pressure sensor snapped during removal. (2015 LC, 32000 miles)

I can get a used sensor from eBay, but apparently the sensor battery has limited life anyway, so the replacement might not last long anyway. Thoughts?


If I go for a new sensor, I assume that the wheel will be out-of-balance without a sensor securely installed; correct? (If so, I would have to take the wheel by car to a dealer to have a replacement fitted. The nearest is some distance away.)


I assume a replacement sensor will have to be paired with the ECU; correct? If so, is this a GS911 job that would entail a second trip to the dealer?


I thought the wheel renovation cost was a bargain, but it looks like costs are going to mount up!

If the wheel/Tyre is balanced without a sensor and just an ordinary valve it will be ok

Are the tyre pressure sensor and valve two separate items attached to the rear wheel.

Thank you, does that mean that there is a blind threaded hole in the rim for the tyre pressure sensor and the valve is separate on the spoke.

That's great thank you, finally, is the TPMS bolt hollow, I suppose it has to be to work as described.

So, you could ditch the TPMS and just retain the valve screwed on the side of the spoke.

Without a TPMS, would you always get an error on the dash or can this be eliminated.

Yes, you could remove the TPMS sender, and it should be just 2.0oz weight difference (minimal).


Having no signal from a dead battery is the same thing as no TPMS installed, so yes you would get the dash warnings.

For completeness & my education, this is the type of combined TPMS/Valve arrangement on a pre-LC RT rear wheel.



This is the valve only for a rear wheel on a pre-LC RT.



The front wheel seems to be the same set up on all RT's, with separate TPMS & valve on the side of the spoke.

My 2012 TC RT doesn't have TPMS, I don't feel unsafe without it.
