The BMW topboxes do work well and have some good features ( high-level brake light and central locking etc), but they are ridiculously priced. I think BMW would sell far more if they were a sensible price. I take the carpet out and place it over my seat to prevent ferry tiedown straps from damaging the vinyl or heating elements.

You know, I do like that light. However the carpet..Meh, waste of space.

Thats what put me off BMW topbox the price is ludicrus , after all its only a "Box" to place your helmet and gloves how can they warrant charging that amount of money ? additions like that should be an option before you purchase the bike , do you want a radio ? a large touring screen ? engine and luggage protection ? cruise control ? .

Admittedly they're not the cheapest but it's well made and already pre-wired etc.  You can also fit 2 x Shoei Neotec helmets in it, if your panniers are full or you put your jackets in them like we do.
I retained the top box from my 1200, have it on the 1250 and will just keep swapping on to the next Rt(s), so works out cheap when you have it for a years.

Still not cheap, and you'd need to factor in a respray if you want it matched to the bike.

That will fit a post-2014 bike, but you'd have to live without the internal courtesy light, the central locking and the option of a high level brake light.

Yes miss carpet, light, central lock but gain carry handle and ease of removal, also can find them cheaper than that mine was £250. On carbon black standard silver box looks good.

+1.
a) Respray old box = £70.
b) Buy new colour matched box and sell my old one - £750.
c) Put the £750 saved in a) towards a bike with a radio  :)  (which I use a lot)

I have a 2019 R 1250 RT and added the 49 liter OEM top box. I have been disappointed that my Shoei Neotech II modular helmet will not fit in the box. Even when laid sideways the lid will not close. Am I missing something or has anyone else experienced this problem?

I've got a repainted old one for my wethead and it will fit my Neotec II and my wifes GT Air

Are either of those helmets modular?  The tech at my BMW dealer said my fit problem was because the helmet was modular.

Well one of them is the same as yours...

The best fit is upright, facing towards the rear of the bike angled slightly towards the centre

I agree that the BMW topbox is well made for the bike , however i do not think that will be recouped if you want to trade your bike in , its all right saying take it off but then you have to fork out for a respray to match your next machine , i would go for a Shad or similar and keep it forever .
