I doubt it, but others may know differently.Glencoe wrote:Would the bikes for export to Saudi be modified in any way David?

Re: Starter button problems
Hi
My 2017 wont start unless its in neutral not sure what the problem is Its not the side stand or clutch switches they work OK, its not that big of a deal so I just put up with it.

Thought that was a obvious.

Unless you've stalled it and want to restart in a hurry.

Re: Starter button problems
I always park my bike on the side stand and in first gear, an extra safety feature as to stop the bike rolling forward.
Therefore getting back on is side stand up, clutch in, press starter button and move off. Simple and quick.
I was taught this years ago, adopted it ever since.
Even with a neutral light showing should we not pull in the clutch to start the engine?
In case of a false neutral, and to unload a shaft (main shaft, not sure?) from the starter?
Again, i was told this many years ago, still a habit today, gearbox technology may well have changed since then?

You’re correct.

Nope it wont Clutch switch seems to be working OK ( Pull clutch with cruse on and it disengages cruse ) Side stand switch stops the engine if extended whilst in gear.
I try not to stall the bike, but it anyone has any suggestions what / how to check further please fell free to put them forwards.

Re: Starter button problems
Just a thought, could the throttle be being manually closed prior to pulling in the clutch. This action would also disengage the cruise control. If so, it might be masking a problem with the clutch lever micro-switch.exportman wrote:Clutch switch seems to be working OK (pull clutch with cruise on and it disengages cruise).

Re: Starter button problems
This video shows how to clean & re-align the clutch micro-switch, might be useful, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY5UbYfxFCw
Disconnecting the switch #9 and by-passing it might be a diagnostic technique.
Alternatively, using a multimeter or test light, check for continuity between the terminals on the switch side of the wiring connector - first with the lever at rest, then with the lever pulled in. There should be continuity with the lever in one position only.
A quote from the Haynes manual (for a Camhead).
"Note: To start the engine with the transmission in gear, switch the ignition ON before pulling the clutch lever in, otherwise the starting system will not be enabled."
I think what this means is that you have to wait until the ECU diagnostic checks are complete before trying to start the bike.

Re: Starter button problems
The micro switch on the clutch side has 2 contact points. One for the cruise disengage, the other for the side stand interlock. They work independently of each other. Putting down the side stand with the clutch engaged (lever pulled into the grip) while in gear, stops the engine. That interlock is in the side stand, however, and has nothing to do with the clutch lever microswitch. It's already triggered, since the clutch lever is pulled. See above).
The only way I found to fix the clutch lever microswitch is to replace it. I tried to bend the contacts etc. No help. It'a an easy fix.
