I had Z8's on my K1600GT all wear indicators good and all of a sudden canvas/steel showing on centre of tyre, current RT has them fitted as OEM.

Thanks Peter, the centre of the Z8's are still a concern but a slight improvement over the Z6's.

I’ll have had my monies worth out of my tyres at 5000 miles so they’ll get changed then anyway. Will never get to canvas.

I voted for roadtec 01s because that's what I have fitted to my 1250 at the moment. It's not a recommendation though as they've been noisy throughout and at 5k miles the rear, whilst still legal, is worn unusually and looks distorted. Any recommendations for a quiet ride?

I use Dunlop Roadsmarts (original) on my Camhead, plus wear moulded ear plugs.

I fitted Michelin Road Pilot 4 ,s to my 1200 RTLE , Done 1500 mile on them and at present well happy great grip in the wet and dry hope to get around 8000/9000 mile before next change .

My 2016 LE had a new set of Avon Storm 3D on them when I bought it. Pretty good in the dry, but never fully trusted them in the wet.
They've just done 4900 ish miles and they've given up the ghost all of a sudden.
Went out on Sunday, inspected them before we left and thought they only had about a thousand miles left at best. They did 243 miles of hard riding, (and we were pushing on a bit) and they're starting to break up now.
Booked in next week for 24k service and new set of Michelin Road 4 GT.


I'll try and photograph her reaction when I tell her the cost of that little lot !!

They did 243 miles of hard riding, (and we were pushing on a bit) and they're starting to break up now.

This is exactly what happened to me with Metzeler Z6's. They Avon Storm 3D's do look a bit slick in the centre without TWI's where most needed.
Hence, why now, I like a tyre which has a groove or grooves overlapping in the centre of the tyre with TWI's across the full width of the tyre to monitor wear.

I had Metz Roadtec 01s for a couple of years, just changed to RP5 GTs and I think they are so much better. Just sayin.

I switched to Contis Road Attack III I find them easier to turn in. However I find I can't use 39 pounds up front as the bike feel twitchy. Michelins PR4 GT just felt fine at that pressure but would start cupping quickly if I ran 36 pounds.

Currently I'm on the new Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE. The new one. So far I have comparison to the factory Metz Z8 on my bike. But they feel better, more precise on the road.
Also they are great on wet. Had few days in rain and I felt very confident.
So far very happy with them.

This is my Avon Storm 3D that came with the bike when bought. It didn't have any of that before we left or I wouldn't have ridden it at all. It didn't look anywhere near ready to break up like that, and I thought it had many more miles than 243 left in it.
