I have an RT complete with touring panniers which I use when my wife comes away with me, I am looking at getting a second bike which I will use when I go away on my own, can I put the RT panniers onto a 2017 BMW1000XR. I am not too concerned about the looks but are the fixings in the right place?
Thanks
Will panniers from a 2017 RT fit a BMW 1000XR?

Using the parts catalogue in this thread, viewtopic.php?p=56390#p56390
A part number can be found and the "search" section used to identify other models the part is used on.
From what I can see, the only other bike that the panniers from a 2017 RT will fit is an R 1250 RT.
As a cross check, the panniers on an XR will only fit an XR, https://bmwsupply.co.uk/part/details?se ... w=btdetail

Thanks David. I feared that would be the case but I hoped I was wrong. Its almost as if BMW want to sell me two lots of almost identical panniers!

They may well fit. Often the plastics are painted slightly differently and so generate a different number. The easiest way is a test fit.jackstraw wrote: I have an RT complete with touring panniers which I use when my wife comes away with me, I am looking at getting a second bike which I will use when I go away on my own, can I put the RT panniers onto a 2017 BMW1000XR. As bob said, the K1600 and the R1200RTLC will fit each other.

Found this on the S1000XR Forum, https://www.s1000xr.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2
Although about pannier liners, is does say, "The XR and GTL each have different attachment points and are bike specific."

Although I don't have the OEM panniers for my XR, I'd be shocked if the RT panniers fit on the XR. There is a different mounting structure on both bikes from my memory. The RT bags attach at the top, where the XR bags attach at the top and bottom. The OEM XR bags are really an afterthought....So I went aftermarket with the Shad 3p system. I also don't like the sub-structure that stays on the XR without the bags on, so that is gone from mine with the Shad system as well.
PS - The XR is amazing. A great second bike for solo riding. It is high strung though, always chomping at the bit to be flogged. So mind your wallet and leave your driver's license at home...

Had the same concern with a 2004 Honda VFR800 VTEC, didn't want the carrying system on the bike when the side cases were not in use.speedy wrote:I also don't like the sub-structure that stays on the XR without the bags on.
Ended up with a SW-MOTECH detachable system with Givi cases.
SW-MOTECH do a system for the BMW S 1000 XR, https://sw-motech.com/en/bike/BMW/S1000 ... 183823.htm
