Top Box paint...

Post by chrismckay »

Guys...

I have a 2012 RT1200 in the colour fluid grey.

I also have the 49l BMW top box in the standard silver that it was manufactured in.

My top box has a few marks on it and I was going to get it sprayed at a spray shop.

Im not sure which shade to get the box sprayed, to be honest the original silver looked quite good, but perhaps the fluid grey to match the rest of the bike might look nicer.

Also the motorcycle colour scheme has the lower half of the bike in a light silver colour, this isnt exactly the same as the top box standard colour but perhaps painted this shade of silver might look good..

Opinions greatly appreciated!!!

Most people that paint the top box lid do so in the main colour of the bike. That way it matches the pannier lids.  Dont think you will have much luck matching the frame or lower fairing  silver colour.

My top box is sprayed fluid grey metallic to match the bike and it looks very good, I personally think leaving it in the original colour looks shabby. I think if you spray it you will be pleased with the result. Think the colour code is N79.

I got my dealer to make sure my box was colour matched before I bought the bike so not sure if they ordered it colour matched or they had to get it sprayed ?

Dealer would have got it done. BMW have and still only do them in silver.  They did make a few in black for the limited edition black bikes they made in 2009 and 2013.

Mine is a 2013 90th Anniversary model so it might have been made specially, I know it took a couple of months after getting the bike before the top case arrived.

I like the comfort seat, the longest ride in one day I have done is 460 miles and it was much better than the stock seat at 250- 300 mile days.
Subject to all the usual caveats, weight height individual preference etc.

I didn't find the stock seat that bad but still got the comfort seat,  glad I did.
Toured Scotland last year a never got a numb bum even on the longest days..  I do have some bar risers so don't know if that makes a difference to sitting/posture ?
