OEM LED LIGHTS

Post by chrisvh »

Has anyone fitted OEM LED additional lights on a 2014 RT?

Thinking about having them installed on mine after seeing lack of visibility of an RT following me for a few miles. Not sure if I am a fan of the "angel eyes" after struggling to spot the following RT.

I believe you have the option of angel eyes only or angel eyes plus low beam?  I would think the bike would be much more visible using the combination...
It would certainly be much much cheaper than getting bmw spots fitted

The angel  eyes fitted to the RT come in two version.  If you have the headlight pro you get them but they are more like side lights as the dip beam stays on all the time.  If you have Daytime Running Lights the eyes are much brighter and the dip stays off in bright light.  On my K that had both DRL and spots you could not run them together.  It had to be DLR. or dip beam with spots.  I suspect its the same on the RT.  BMW reckon there is a chance of blinding oncoming traffic with both on.
The OEM spots are very bright LED items and although expensive are very high quality. On a previous bike I never switched them off in the two years I owed it.

Yes, the DRL Halo's are very bright on mine. and significantly brighter than those on the K1600's.
I'm also fitting the LED Aux running lights from my old GSA too...but only because i already have them, as to retro fit the complete kit would cost about £300+ (inc. the LEDs, brackets, switch etc.) i think.

Yes indeed, you can add another £100 or so for labour, although i think its a simple enough job to do yourself....except for the coding.

Pic 1 confuses me.  The bike obviously has DLR. With that activated  and in daytime mode the spots should not work but one of them is.

Sorry, not wanting to hijack this thread but since it's on the topic of lights. I don't think my dipped beam on my 2014 RT is particularly good? Without looking through my manual as I hate reading this stuff when there are real world experts on the site who have tried and tested most things on the bike. Question: can the dipped beam be improved? as I am not sure about the auxiliary light,, yet!

I have found the OEM headlight to be adequate at night, after I'd adjusted it to my liking. However the low beam is never gonna be as bright as a xenon HiD....which might be my next mod.
I think the OEM twin highbeams are perfectly adequate though.

I also find the OEM headlights perfectly adequate - mind  you, I came to the RT from a Multistrada and the lights on that were useless!

I have added the BMW additional LED lights too.  They do give an increased spread to the pool of light around the bike at night, especially to the sides.  Aminly though, I added them to help car drivers see me...
