Hello to you all.

Post by David and Sally »

Picking up our R1250RT next week. Sept 2020 plate but only 700 miles.

We have had a whole string of BMWs the last being a K1600GTL which we toured on for years and completely loved.

Smiles per mile easily the best bike we have ever had.

Anyway, Have a Triumph 800 Xca which is a really good bike, but it’s not a full-on tourer so back to BMW. Might still keep it for days out.

Just had to go for the RT ….. back to the Boxer engine after a few K series bikes. Have to say the K1600 is awesome but hoping that the Boxer fills that spot in our hearts presto!

Here’s hoping for a lot of joy with the new bike and wishing you all safe and enjoyable riding.

Yes. Headlight protector. Very expensive to replace. This is what happens when I got hit by a pheasant.

Maybe I was unlucky but imagine what a stone could do. I really don't know if a headlight protector would have made any difference but think its worth the gamble. It was a few years ago now and from memory the headlight unit cost about £620.

Like above. I'd definitely invest into headlight protector.
Maybe not 'essential' but nice to have if you have BMW Navigator. SatNav lock. (with central locking)

BTW. I have Nav VI and lock for sale ;D

Over the last 6 years, I have had two headlight protectors smashed by stones on two LCs. Not sure if that would have resulted in a smashed headlight though, but I bought my first protector when a mate of mine had a cracked headlight on this 2014 bike

Me thinks it would have smashed your headlight. The plastic lens is extremely thin and in the centre is quite a large flat unsupported area. I think its quite weak. Its a shame the powers think the headlight unit which is a big expensive piece of kit has to be scrapped because of a lens breakage. If BMW were green then it should be a replaceable front lens. Easy enough to do. Such a waste.
