Rear-gear oil capacity for 2021 1250RT

Post by wethead »

Does anyone know where I can find technical documentation from BMW for the rear-gear oil capacity--it is NOT listed on the owner's manual

If it is the same as the 1200 LC K52 bike from 2014 then its 180 ml. I cannot believe the final drive is different but do check.

This is in reference to a 1200...I have a 2021 1250RT...lots of folks presume its the same, but I want to get the technical data from a BMW resource specifically for my bike. I find it kind of funky that that information is no where's to be found--so far

Sure I understand. I think your only options are to either try and get the latest 1250 BMW workshop manual or ask the tech at your dealer to look it up for you.

I was only able to find a 2019 manual, which lists 180ml.  I measured what I drained out of my 2021 RT with a mix cup and measured 200ml.

When I did my first service back in 2014 I did the same measured out what BMW had put in and was pissed off to see 200 ml. That is incorrect for 1200 bikes it should be 180 ml.

I expect the only manual available for the 1250 bikes is BMW own.

The Rider's Manual does indeed confirm that the viscosity is now 70W-80, a change from the previous 75W-90.

This spec. sheet agrees with the viscosity and 180 ML capacity, https://www.louis.eu/magazin/rund-ums-b ... /0j61/3753

Capacity vs Service?
Initial fill 200ml
Service/oil change put 180ml in.
Possible but can't see that changing on 21 RT. No service DVD available for owners yet is really the issue.
