Zumo 660 vs Nav 6

I have a 10 year old Zumo 660 which works perfectly well but may not last for ever and are now discontinued. Both my bikes have the Garmin Zumo 660 cradle, they are hardwired through an Autocom to in helmet speakers for sat. nav. voice prompts. I'm not bothered about music or phones etc. or using Bluetooth.

Today, got the opportunity to try a BMW Nav 6 in the Zumo 660 cradle. I'm pleased to be able to report that the Nav 6 powers up and gives out audio voice prompts. The guy whose Nav 6 it was uses Bluetooth and for some unknown reason, the media player wouldn't work as it was looking for something to do with Bluetooth which neither of us understood. As above this didn't concern me.

I'm now happy to know that if I had to replace the Zumo 660, the BMW Nav 6 would be a straight swap and work for me, without having to change the cradles.

Thought this might be of interest to anyone in a similar situation.

The BMW Nav 6's are currently discounted to £465. How much would a Zumo XT and adaptor cost?

As for audio output I much prefer the bluetooth option as do many others although I turn the audio off on the sat nav anyway so thats no loss to me



But if you can buy a cheap bluetooth reciever and have it work with a wired system for less than the Nav 6


I suspect the Nav 6 will be stopped soon due to TFT

To make Bluetooth work with an Autocom system a module is required, CHAINSPEED Stereo Bluetooth Module BTM-03 For Autcom Logic & SPA Systems - Chainspeed Ltd at nearly £80 each.

My experience with Bluetooth is that the volume output was not very good. Without a hardwired system, battery life is a consideration too.

if thats a 3.5mm plug there is plenty of alternatives out there for a lot less

I would have to do a bit of searching to find something that would work but there will be something out there


The difference with the autocom unit is that it has three poles on the 3.5mm jack plug

Its the microphone one that can pose the problem as most other Bluetooth transmitters/receiver's have an in built mic
