How much can I get in panniers and top box?

Post by Fourbears »

I am wondering if it is possible to fit my textile suit (jacket and trousers with armour), full face helmet and my riding boots in the panniers and top box? I know they are huge and since it is cold and wet I can’t get in the garage to try at the moment. I am presuming it’s possible as the helmet fits nicely in the top box with room to spare.

Don't want to sound rude but your size will dictate what you can fit too

If you are a big guy with a big head and big feet its going to take up more room!

I have had the wife's gear in once but that was on my FJR and the panniers I had was larger!

It wasn't a struggle but it was a pain to get it all to fold properly due to the armour

I am short (5’9” if I’m lucky), size 7 feet and take a large in most things. Smallish head too at 57cm.

I carry the wife's gear routinely with no problems. Usually put jacket and pants in the topbox, helmet and boots in the panniers.
The helmet would normally fit in the topbox but rain suits and other "stuff" live in there most of the time. Armored jacket, pants and other layers for cold weather fit fine though.

I have found that it can be easier to fit if you remove the back protector from the jacket and pack that separately

47 litres top box and panniers I think are 31 litre each... get a fair bit in.. but you can't bring your rollers or hair dryers are curling tongues :P
