Headlights plastic cover replacement r1200rt 2014

Post by Aregion »

Hi i am new to the forum and apologies if am posting in incorrect section.

I am trying to find replacement part to a cracked and broken headlight plastic clear cover ... but I looked online and could only find the headlight as a complete set. Does anyone know if the plastic cover is sold seperately?

Not sure where you are based, but the part is made by RG and is aftermarket not BMW supplied. Nippy Normans supply them in the UK

https://www.nippynormans.com/headlight-protectors although out of stock, but you can buy them elsewhere

Of if you mean the actual lens of the headlight, I think it's only available as a complete unit.

Welcome to the forum 👍 are you talking about the front of the headight shell and not a headlight protector? If so
here’s the bad news, it’s a one piece headlight I believe, and way cheaper sourced from breakers rather than buying from BMW at great expense.
That’s the reason you see so many RT’s with headlight protectors, mine included.
Best of luck…

Nope, sorry the headlight is a sealed unit.

If you want a headlight protector, then that's a different matter, Headlight Shield for BMW R1200RT '14- & R1250RT '19-'20 (rg-racing.com)

That's my bike David has posted after an impact with a stupid pheasant. Yes if the OP is referring to the actual lens of the headlight it is a sealed unit and it's expensive. It comes complete with new bulbs and is relatively easy to replace yourself once the bodywork is off the bike. One reason the last picture has a lens protector fitted. If the lens only has a minor crack then I wonder if there is a way to repair it. Maybe an option. Photo would be helpful.

Waaww... thank you everyone for the quick and helpful response.

Yes, I was referring to the integrated headlight plastic lens , not the protector.

I am considering to buy a 2014 , 75000km with some mainly cosmetic damage (from a minor accident) . Significantly cheaper than a good condition used one.

Here are some pics.

I checked on the salvage market for the headlight, looks like a manageble cost but its irritating to have to get the entire unit for just a lens

Any other tip to look out for before I jump in?

Yeah, buy a headlight protector 20 quid for a cheap Chinese one compared to "How Much?!?!?!?" :o  for a replacement headlight

Only to have a thorough and realistic check over the bike in respect of bits that will need replacement, especially as you now realise the prohibitive cost of BMW spare parts.

Re. the headlight, you may find a Chinese copy replacement part available at a far lower cost, otherwise there’s plenty on Ebay from around £200 - £400.

In the end i jumped in to purchase the bike.... this forum will be so valuable as I restore the bike.

I could not find a chinese copy, but i found on ebay the parts from salvage.. at the moment the numbers add up still way below buying a good condition used bike. Hopefully the parts will arrive in good shape.
