Your mate might have been reading through the Head Injury Criterion (HIC) test statistics published in some of the motorcycle magazines before making his decision. Arai always moan at the testing regime if their helmets don't come "first".

I did watch the recent Motolegends video placing Arai and Shoei at the top of their list. As you say, pay your money and take your choice.

Any helmet is crap be it a £50 or £1000 unless it fits correctly. The helmet i wouldn't trust is where there is a joining seem through the middle. These are lightly to split in half on an impact. Most helmets are made by a blown mold, where the mold is in 2 pieces. The plastic is soft and pushed it into the top mold to make the shell. This is also where you get your cheap copies from. When the old molds are thrown out as it is meant to be destroyed but is stolen and reused by unscrupulous people mainly in china make unsafe copies. Hence the OP site he found

I understand, and agree with the point..... but if you cant afford to buy a £700 helmet and throw it away every 3 years you cant afford it.... no matter what you think your life / head's worth

The Arai QV Pro, available at £370 has a 5 year replacement, or more if you keep it out of the sun when not in use.

The main problem is these companies know bikers spend a lot on kit. Everything from knock-off CE protection pads, leathers, helmets, etc. These goods are coming from China but referring to leather goods, these scam companies have started to say they are in Australia or in Portugal.

caveat emptor, Buyer beware
