Were does this go?

When picking up the broken bits from my little tumble i found this. Where does it fit?. Think somewhere around the mirror. THe only mark stamped into it is "L"

My initial thought was it looks like it might be part of the windscreen lift mechanism ?

Could it be part of the broken plastic engine protector.

Is it actually off the bike? looks like part of a broken umbrella or something.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Davids correct. I have 2 that have come for the new protectors. They seem to fit between the plastic and the valve cover. Suppose it's to stop the vibration between the two surfaces.
