2006 R1200RT aftermarket mirrors

Hi All


The standard mirrors on my RT offer limited rear vision, an issue that I'm sure many RT owners have experienced. They do the job if they're accurately set but they're not perfect. I know some others have fitted aftermarket mirrors on the handlebars and there do seem to be holes that would accept mirrors. The problem I'm finding is that there are about a million different aftermarket mirror fittings available so my question is this ... does anyone have a link to mirrors that WILL fit easily and at the first attempt?[align=right][size=0.85em]

I seem to rember using 1150GS mirrors on my 2005RT. BMW K1200RS mirrors will also fit,

I seem to remember using 1150GS mirrors on my 2005RT. BMW K1200RS mirrors will also fit.

This thread from BMWLT would seem to agree with John, Agding GS Mirrors to the R1200RT | BMW Luxury Touring Community (bmwlt.com)

(Be aware that it lists mirrors for both Camheads and Hexheads).

Using the R1150GS part no. 51162307769 from BMWLT (reply #15),  found this at James Sherlock, Handlebar mirrors: Handlebar mirror and nut (james-sherlock.co.uk)

I have fitted Wunderlich adjustable mirrors (Part: WUN-23650-000) to my 2020 1250TT, so that I can fold the RHS one down, when engaging the steering lock.  The original mirrors don't do it for me, as they are not in my normal line of peripheral vision.


I did manage on a hired 1200RT, for a month, when riding in Australia, but I still prefer the higher, bar-mounted mirrors.  I wish BMW would update the RT set up to match the K1600, which has super duper mirrors!

I bought a pair of used K1200RS mirrors off eBay for about $50 and the nuts from Wunderlich. The K1200RS mirrors fit perfectly on the RT's handlebars and look stock. I know others use GS mirrors as well, but I don't care for their look on the RT.

I found once i got my mirrors on my 07 they give a good view behind me. It did take a week of riding to get the right position. Comparing my 2 bikes with one having normal Mickey mouse mirrors with mirror extenders fitted that my eyes take no quicker or slower off the road. Probably the same time takes to glance at the clocks. I can see how tall people have problems with the view from the fairing mirrors. At 5ft,9inches i find they are in the correct position for me.
I will say the best fairing mirrors ive used were fitted to the old R80/100RT. I also believe that the bike had the best wind and rain protection ive experienced.

My objection to the mirrors, besides looking down and away from the road ahead, is that you can't put a wide touring load behind you since it blocks the view in the fairing mirrors.
