Immobilizer ?
In my handbook that came with the bike, it states that it is fitted with an immobilizer as standard. I've looked around the ignition lock and all i can see is a black box fitted to the cylinder. I have doubts i have an immobilizer fitted as my keys have no battery or chips in them. A VIN check states I've one fitted but if the keys have no internal battery or chips how does it work?. Was immobilizer's fitter to 2007 RT's?

Re: Immobilizer ?
Cheers, once again David. Still can't see where the chip is in my keys. I suspect unlike car keys with chips in the BMW bike chip is molded into the plastic part of the key without a small tab you can open.

Plenty of car keys have moulded in transponders, the openable compartment is more indicative of central locking where the key has to actively transmit from a greater distance.

Re: Immobilizer ?
Is that why the new BMW M/C have a large key. Hence the central locking

In part. The keyless ride feature is also an 'active transmit' so also requires a battery.
