What have you got or had?

Up to 2002 I always had R80RTs, I suppose for around 8 yrs or so.

Then came the R1150 RT  I took one out for a test ride in Oct 2001 and was hooked I ordered it.

It was brilliant, I went to Europe on it 3 times in 2003, taking wife first, 2nd trip was with son then daughter moaned that she hadn't been so I took her.

I n Nov 2004 I ordered a new 1200 RT I hadn't even seen one but the dealer said it was fantastic compared with 1150, me and a mate of mine went to Crystal Palace to have a look at what Id signed up for. I wasn't sorry.

So for my 50th birthday in March I collected my new red 1200rt, I didn't go for all the gadgets just kept it pretty basic , heated grips and OBC were a must cos I used it most days to go to work and also quite a bit of touring.

At work it was nicknamed the Red  Toaster, (cos of the slabby sides )

I did 38000miles on the R1150 and had no problems at all, it was brilliant.

I kept the Red 1200 for 9 yrs and did 56000 mile BUT not all trouble free.  Apart from that Gearbox oil seal going (1month out of warranty and 17000 miles) The other problems were electrical.

I sold this one in Jan 2014 I was genuinely sorry to see it go But I just had this dread that I would go to it one m0rning and when I pull the front brake on there would be no Wizz from the servos.    That would be expensive.

So I fancied something different and ordered a new F8000 GS  (Big mistake couldn't get on with it 2 up with luggage too top heavy for me)

So in August this year that went and Ive now got a 2011 RT, I bought it private with 4000 miles on clock, I must admit its good I am enjoying it and it will only get better as the miles grow.  My red 1200RT used to go like a rocket.  I take quite a few club runs and people used to remark on its lift.

This one is still a bit tight (but still good

My 2007 model wasn't without it's problems, the engine failed after 6 months & 10,000 miles, partially seized both cylinders, fortunately under warranty.

BMW said they were investigating a number of piston crown failures, new modified pistons were fitted.

The front discs were replaced twice, the second pair were a modified design.

The Twin Cam model certainly has more punch to it, I was out with a guy on a Honda SP1 and he noticed the difference.

What Club runs do you take.

Yes I must admit I am very  happy with the twin cam. I re placed the discs on my last one at about 49000 miles so they did well. But my mate had a problem with warping and he had a few pairs fitted under warranty.

I take runs  mostly on Sundays , sometimes during the week.  We also do European . last year to Innsbruck, 13 days, this year we finished in Heidelberg,we went for 10 days. I think next year it looks like Scotland for 10 days or so.
We also do weekenders next May its Cheddar Gorge for 2 nights.  This Thursday Im putting on a short one to Boroughbridge Tasty Snacks café we just dropped on it one day when coming back from another run so its now on the where to go  list  Must admit runs do tend to drop off this time of year
