2009 R1200RT fuel range

Hi, the fuel strip sensor in my R1200RT has failed again! I’m away for a few days touring and I’ll need to use the mileage trip meter to judge fuel level. As a rough guide, what mileage would I get from a full tank, non motorway riding and pretty quick. I’m only after an approx and will refuel in plenty of time. I don’t know the fuel consumption rate coz I’ve never bothered to work it out.

To cover you start looking for fuel at about the 200-mile mark. Have you tried zapping the fuel sender?. Once the side panel is off it takes less than 20 to do.

I agree on the 200 mile mark, a full tank gives around the 300 mile (+ or - 20) so it gives you plenty of leeway.

look on YT for BMW fuel strip Zap. You just need an electronic over lighter and two wires. I paid £2.50 for the lighter.

i have a 2007 R1200RT and my fuel strip has gone three times. i gave up getting it repaired and just fill up at 280-300 miles. that has worked ok for me for years

I've just looked through the BMW service invoices i received for my 2007. It seems to have gone through 8 fuel strips. For the last service, 700 miles before i purchased it the invoice stated again new fuel strip was required. For me, that ain't a big thing but a flashing light gets on my tit. As long i could work out how far i could ride without running out meant more to me. Before getting the electric tape out i found on YT Zapping. £2 and 10 clicks later the strip was working again. That was 4000 miles again. Now i know what range i get to a tank if the fuel strip dies again when am away from now i will be safe. If it does stop working i will just zap it again at home or when parked up as the zapper is in my tool bag. It is only a 20 minute job from start to finish.
