Trouble with Locking System

Post by Randyjaco »

I am having problems with the Locking system on 17 RT. The left saddle bag and now the left glove box will not lock. They will lock with the key. Other than the Locking problems everything  works  as designed.
In the past I was able to glue some extensions to the bike's Locking piston. But that is a temporary solution.  Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Certainly with the glove box and probably with the pannier, the key lock and central lock are independant. Do the solenoids actuate when the lock button is pressed? Should be easy to tell with the pannier, just take the case off and look for the push rod moving up.

Yes the solenoids actuate. The left side just doesn't move far enough.  I  was able to hack a solution for the pannier. I drilled and tapped the piston for a M3.5 screw.  That allowed me to adjust the piston height to the optimal amount. Now the central locking system works on both panniers.  :)
Now I have to figure out a similar hack for the glove box. But that is going to require the removal of lots of Tupperware  >:(

I dont think you have to remove much, just the left hand panel (carefully) and the speaker cover.

I would say that the glove box locking bar is quite robust, if its not working it may have slipped off the actuator or something.
