!! Need someone to take over this site !!
!! Need someone to take over this site !!
Since I am now down scaling my life and want to stay longer periods on my boat and for longer periods without internet - I need someone who can take over 1200rt.com.
The simplest path is to leave everything as it is today, but for new owners to take over the domain and ownership of the hosting.
Those who take over should have programming knowledge and best - have been responsible for such websites in the past.
I give you the site for free, but you have to commit to running it as I do today, and without trying to make money from it.
Sales of member lists, emails etc will be completely unacceptable
But you have to bear the cost of the domain, as well as the hosting.
If no one signs up, this site will be closed during the summer.
regards
STeinar

Well, that is unfortunate news, indeed. First off, thank you for all the work you've done over the years. You managed to assemble a group of knowledgeable and civil followers. As you leave you take with our appreciation. Unfortunately, I don't possess the requisite skills, having just gotten my first cell phone, ever, today. Unfortunately, on the way to collect it I hit a patch of dried leaves on my RT, breaking my collarbone and five ribs and destroying my plans to visit France in England for the summer. So your news comes as the cap on a truly awful week. I do hope someone here steps up to continue the good work, but that someone is not me. Enjoy your life at sea! By the way, my bike is far less injured than I was. That's the only good news this week!

Hmm , Now I'm also told by the hosting company that this site has to be upgraded - as its running a rather old version of SMF.
If not upgraded - it will not be allowed to continue running at my host.
This is not just click of a button , as I have done quite a few modifications to the SMF.
Not sure now what to do, maybe the easiest will be to pull the plug

That would be a great loss of a valuable model specific forum.STeinar wrote:Not sure now what to do, maybe the easiest will be to pull the plug.

Hopefully I shall be taking over the running of the forum
I currently have two other forums and have been running one for over 15 years
If STeinar allows me to take over then i will end up moving it to my current server so there would be periods of downtime while this takes place but I would keep all informed

Hi Sakm.
That's great news and I'm sure everyone on the forum will be great full.
Have you thought about joining us at the forum meet next month?
I'm sure everyone will buy you a pint which will cover any forum costs

``` Well, that's certainly a relief. Thank you SACKM. I hope that this won't meet with some concern, but I would like to make the same suggestion to you as I may long ago to Steiner, that he might accept some contributions towards the expenses of running the form from me. I always felt a bit guilty that we benefited so much from these pages. Let me know how you feel about that, and I'm not suggesting that a membership fee be generally imposed by any means.
Yes thank you Sakm, as the new site owner ^-^
I'm on my Sailboat ( limited Inet here) and will be here for some more weeks, but will transfer all needed info and access when I'm home again.
So the site will continue as is for now , and then moved later on. I will assist the best I can
Enjoy the summer everyone - take care
