Possibly looking to buy a R1250RT

Post by Glenn »

I currently have a 2011 R1200RT and may be thinking of upgrading it later in the year, is there anything to look out for when buying a 2019 R1250RT, any common issues, anything to look out for on a 2nd hand bike?

The only problem I've had with my 2019 RT is the exhaust flap failing. It didn't get to the point where it threw up a warning light but was very noisy on the self test just after turning the ignition on. Replaced under the three year warranty by the dealer after an attempt to lubricate it. Don't think that the exhaust system or flap is covered under the extended warranty but may be with a main dealer used bike warranty (suppose you'd have to ask).
Talking to people this seems to be one of the common faults that have been experienced.

Nope no cover at all even if you buy from a main dealer!

I had the same issues with the flap on my 1200 I just ended up removing all the actuator and fitting a healtech exhaust servo eliminator

Exhaust flap on these machines is an ongoing problem for years BMW engineers appear to think that its too expensive to sort out and cheaper to give you cover until the warranty runs out on replacing parts etc , you pay and money and take your choice and again there are owners who have had no problem at all i,m afraid its suck it and see.Good Luck.

My 2019 10,000 mile exhaust flap is perfect according to recent inspection.

Make sure the bike software is up-to-date if you buy from a dealer. DAMHIK.

Comfort Pack = (roughly) Central locking,Alarm, Tyre Pressure monitoring, extra Power socket
Dynamic Pack = (roughly) DRL, Hill Start Control, Headlight Pro, Dynamic Riding mode
Touring Pack = (roughly) Dynamic ESA, GPS Prep, Seat Heating, Central Locking

So your bike is a typical R1250RT LE plus the Styling package (optional paint + Chrome finishers) and intelligent emergency call.

The only bits it hasn't got are a radio and foglamps.
