Hex GS911, anyone use one ?. 2 fault codes ?
I’ve recently bought a GS911 WiFi from a friend, downloaded the drivers and software etc then used it via iPad on my 2019 R1250RT.
I did an Autoscan which ran with no issues but it’s detected 2 fault codes. Satellite body controller - CAN-bus fault and another Engine controller - Tank venting valve- open circuit.
Also further down the list it says Emergency telematics module faults: 8.
Obviously I’m totally new to this but if anyone has had or seen similar I’m very interested on the outcome, an issue I’ve had with the bike 4 or 5 times in 2000mls is a random power loss / surging when going up a steepish hill, bmw dealer could not find the cause. I had a suspicion it was DTC related but seeing the tank venting valve fault code it could be related to that, not sure!.
Thanks for any tips.

They should tell you if the faults are active or not usually donated by a red dot too and yours are all yellow so may be just intermittent
I would print them off and save them then clear all faults and see if they come back

Nothing worse than an intermittent fault!, sounds like a plan to reset them. I only had the ignition on when I ran autoscan not with the engine running, perhaps I should of done.
One thing, I couldn’t find out how to enter my vin number but presumably when you run autoscan it stores it ?.

No there is no need for the engine to be running but you should have it on a charger whilst its plugged in so the voltage doesn't drop below 12.5v
I am pretty sure you get a confirmation to store the bike's VIN

Ok thanks, obviously my optimate isn’t man enough for the live charge needed. I may have another look soon with the motor running as I’m always worried about ignition on for any length of time.

Yes the optimate isn't up to job of keeping the voltage up when using the GS-911
I use a different charger for that purpose
Its not advisable to have the engine running as its not designed to work like that and some tasks actually require the engine to be stopped when performing them

Thanks for the reply’s,
I’ve managed to store my Vin now on the gs911 and then did an esa suspension calibration, strangely only the rear shocks preload wound down then back again but the front did not, am I missing something ?. The task did say complete. I’ve seen videos of GS1200’s where both front and rear did their thing on the preload.
Thanks.

I'm not sure but the GS-911 is usually right in that if its performed the task correctly it will tell you and if it can't perform the task it give you an error of some sort

I’ve googled it and just can’t find an answer, I’d be shocked ( excuse the pun) if the RT doesn’t have remote adjustable preload on the front to.

Its not something I have looked at!
Mine has ESA and was under the impression that its front and rear preload as well as damping

The RT doesn't have preload adjustment on the front, the GS doesn't either, only damping rates.

Yup as @simbo says no front preload
I have just gone out and checked mine and took pics
Before finding a better pic online

Thanks for the heads up!. That’s reassuring but I have definitely watched YouTube videos of GS’s with the preload on the front being activated with a gs911 calibration …simbo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 8:24 pmThe RT doesn't have preload adjustment on the front, the GS doesn't either, only damping rates.

But that is the older model! and a GS not an RT so I wonder if the RT doesn't or has never had this function

That’s true , but I just thought it would of been similar to the RT as they both have a front and rear shocks, thinking about it most of the weight with a pillion and luggage is on the back so…sakm wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 11:00 pmWell you're not wrong
