Dunsop Bridge in Lancashire claims to be the centre of Great Britain and is marked with a famous phone box.

Using Google Maps https://www.google.co.uk/maps?daddr=Dun ... ls&t=m&z=9,

Ingleby Barwick (near Stockton-on-Tees) is 92 miles away.

How far do you live from the centre of GB?

128 from me.  Doesn't look very central to me. They must be including the Irish Sea and Ulster in their calculations.

Wikipedia says:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_poi ... ed_Kingdom

The Queen has visited Dunsop Bridge twice, once during the late 1980s and more recently in the summer of 2006.

There's a ready made event which is perfectly timed for the longest day and that's the VMCC Banbury Run this year

It's even at the National Heritage motor museum at nearby Gaydon, for anyone interested in 4 wheels

The event runs all day and features road trials of some of the oldest motorcycles running

Nothing like setting off for a ride at 4:30 am as the sun comes up, empty roads just animals, beware of deer about 10 miles from the site

As I recall Banbury was always referred to as the centre of England and the event itself is a cracker

Sounds like an interesting Event.

The National Motorcycle Museum is near Meriden, another place referred to as the centre of England, not far from Gaydon.

Make a weekend of it & visit both Museums for 2 & 4 Wheels.

Recently road past Haltwhistle, another place which claims to be the exact geographic centre of the island, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haltwhistle.

That may well be, but Cardiff must be the centre of the universe then if you include the Irish Sea that is?

I couldn't get to Cardiff so road from Chabanais to the Perigord region of South West France few hours out with a stop in Brantome for a coffee. I must admit the majority of French is done by shopkeepers and restaurateurs I swear everybody else spoke English it was like being in an British holiday town lol.

The bike got a lot of attention from those who have bikes, love bikes or had bikes. The great thing about bikes is you cab have conversations with complete strangers from all walks of life. If you have not been to Brantome take a trip there.

Not a chance, not with all those gravelled roads.  Could it not just be though that an RT with all that grunt, extra weight had more to do with the difference from your little Tigers than the Z8s

Quite possible.  However the Tiger is no leightweight at 220kgs plus panniers and top box + my 17.5st in all quite heavy all round. Notwithstanding a tall bike with CofG carried quite high.
Maybe just the shock of gravel maybe try it again before the week is out. Until now I never had major issues with Z8s but prefer PS3 maybe a psychological thing who knows?

Using the Compass Points method, Haltwhistle does seem to tick all the boxes as being the Centre of GB, http://www.centre-of-britain.org.uk/centre.htm.

The Hotel looks nice too.

Looks like I'm 79 miles away.

I'd be up for that.  350 miles round trip for me - meander down the east cost, night in a nice hotel then back up the middle home...
