2016 RDC Replacement newer style.

I have a 2016 R1200RT and the RDC in both tires need to be replaced due to battery's getting old. There are numerous posts about the 2014 TPMS, RDC of bikes prior to 2016. These are a banana type and plenty of aftermarket supplies on the net. 2016 onwards are NOT these types. Below is both the incorrect banana style and my newer style. Im not after links to how to replace the older style.  Id like to have feedback from someone who has actually performed the replacement on a 2016. did the older banana style work with the 2016 or am i committed to buy the newer $300 type.?

Replaced one on a 2014 RTp a month ago. Fitted fine and is working. Needed a wake up tool and the use of a GS911 to programme it in. Also the banana type have been superseded by the new shape for all models. Last point I found, the new type no longer have the id on the item that you need to programme into the ECU. The old banana type had the id on a sticker on the side. So as I stated above, I needed a wakeup tool so the bike recognised the new sensor.

He is in Australia, so a UK supplier probably isn't much use to him

From what I can see, Schrader are in Germany. BMW managed to ship a bike to Australia, a TPMS shouldn't be too difficult.

Yes but you posted a link telling the op and directing him to a UK parts supplier. My point is, buying from a UK parts supplier probably isn't cost effective. It is nothing to do with where something is manufactured is it? You need to get out more

The OP asked if he, "was committed to buy the newer $300 type". He may not be aware that Schrader offer an OE-Quality TPMS alternative to the BMW (made by Schrader) one.

The other question which hasn't been answered is, "did the older banana style work with the 2016". This is probably being asked as there are, "plenty of aftermarket supplies on the net".

ok, This was a big challenge that has paid finally off. below are my findings.
There are no Cheap options here in Australia at all, Every dealer and importer is asking around $300 each, but I did manage to find out that they are the exact same type as used by KTM. Part 61412033000 ,

Cost $66.27 USD but they wont ship too Aust, But they did ship to my mates who lives in the US. He is mailing them to me. Cost total with US tax's and current exchange rate was AUD $140.50 this is half of the cost of only 1 here.
As soon as I pull the old ones out I will re post about how to replace the battery in these newer type as there is nothing on the web about these newer type model yet.

On my previous RT, i replaced the battery. The batteries only cost a few pounds. Have a look at tinderboxarts on YT. It's a easy job

I have a 2016 R1200rt and needing to replace the TPMS sensors in both wheels. I've researched this form trying to determine what the best solution would be. I located a post mentioning the KTM 61412033000 as a newer, updated replacement. Can someone who's completed this upgrade confirm this is a direct replacement? If so, can you still use the original bolt to mount this new KTM sensor? Trying to avoid paying $216 each for the original BMW 36319832032 sensors if there's a better/smarter alternative.

I can confirm the KTM sensor works in my 2017 R1200GSA and 2021 R1250RT. Not sure about your "original bolt" though. You can check a parts fiche site and see if part numbers are the same.

I really appreciate you getting back to me on this. Personally, I believe the KTM replacement is a much better choice than purchasing the inexpensive China replacements, especially since this is the new updated item being used on the newer RT's & GSA's.

Since this post, I was able to find this at Wunderlich America, https://www.wunderlichamerica.com/Motor ... erlich_BMW,
they advertise this same part for the R1200Rt. Their part number for this RDC is 3631732, at $99.95 each plus shipping. I found this KTM part 61229035000 (3142M) for $78.00 each, including shipping from Honda Of South Georgia, https://www.ebay.com/str/hondaofsouthgeorgia.

I hope this information is helpful to those needing to replace their RDC (TPMS) sensors. Much less than the $216 each from my local BMW dealer.

I recently completed the replacement of the RDC - TPMS sensors on my 2016 R1200RT. As mentioned in previous posts, the KTM sensors manufactured by Schrader 3141M are the exact same as the newer style BMW sensors. The BMW sensors are priced at $218 each, the KTM's are $78 each. Should you decide to upgrade to this newer style sensor, you'll need to purchase a new sensor mounting bolt which is shorter than the original one. The BMW part number is 36318359961, cost is $15 each. You'll also need the GS-911 to program the sensor ID number into the bikes computer. The transmitter tool EL-50448 is not necessary if you program the sensors using the GS-911 (entering the ID manually into the bikes computer).

I went this route because I didn't want to purchase the inexpensive knock-off's, or spend $438 for two new BMW OEM sensors + $30 for the new mounting bolts. The TPMS sensors on my bike were the original ones, and the rear sensor was failing. My estimate is about 6 years average life on the batteries in these sensors.
