OEM Top Case Luggage Rack
Hi
As we're hoping to do some more touring with the new 1250 I'm considering fitting a Wunderlich luggage rack on the standard issue top case to supplement the standard luggage volume.
My query is whether the fitting kit inside the lid might interfere with it being used for helmet storage while we're not on tour and just want to stash them in there for a couple of hours.
I've got a Givi rack from my last Pan'13 but the spacing of the fittings means the bolt heads inside the lid hit the top of the helmets (Shark Evoline S3s).
I'd appreciate anyone with a Wunderlich rack letting me know if they've had a problem like this.
Thanks.

Found this video, the screw heads don't look like they protrude too far under the lid. May be even less than that of the padded backrest.

How about an Isotta luggage rack, they don't require any drilling, can be removed when not required and don't intrude under the lid.

Can get them for the panniers, then no issues with the top case lid. If the panniers are only used when touring, this may be a solution.
Isotta do bags for the racks.

I’ve got the Wunderlich rack fitted to my top box (by the PO). My helmet, a Shoei Neotec fits inside with no issues so I guess it depends on your helmet! I just have to have it at the correct angle to get the lid to shut correctly (only because I have a road atlas in my top box) but that could be the case with any helmet.

Yes, I guess it's a matter of a particular helmet versus the lower protrusions of the rack fixings. I'm leaning towards the Wunderlich but I like the looks of the black Isotta very much. Whichever I go with I won't need a bag as I've still got my old ST1300 stuff to use.
My only misgiving about the Isotta (and it truly is the only one) is the extent to which the backseater's back rest pad (instead of remaining nicely flush) has to sit up away from the lid where the rack's mounting bracket lies beneath it - I don't want to have to remove the pad to clean beneath it! Yes, I know I'm an idle Cuss!
I don't see any online images showing whether the pad does have to sit up from the lid.
Thanks for your responses guys - very helpful even if I still can't commit to a particular product yet.
Best of the season to everyone.

Good point, hadn't spotted that. The top photo of these two probably shows what the gap looks like.Excellence wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 8:32 amMy only misgiving about the Isotta (and it truly is the only one) is the extent to which the back seater's back rest pad (instead of remaining nicely flush) has to sit up away from the lid where the rack's mounting bracket lies beneath it. Best photo I've seen yet - that's a huge gap!!I think it's a Wunderlich for us.
Thanks David for finding that image - really helpful and decision made!

Re: OEM Top Case Luggage Rack
Think I'd rather have the gap than start drilling holes in a perfectly good, waterproof top case.

Just had a nose online and that Isotta set up looks good with decent reviews. With some photos for you.

Re: OEM Top Case Luggage Rack
Ive got the issotti rack. When fitted, the rack fittings do go under the back rest, but as the rest is foam, when you tighten the screws the back rest sqidges down and it is not noticeably raised at all. I have only used mine a couple of times.

IMO, as a permanent fixture, the Wunderlich version in chrome looks the nicest.

I’ve got one of the Wunderlich racks and can fit a shoei esprite3 and scorpion full face in together. The fitting bolts protrude millimetres into the storage area.

Re: OEM Top Case Luggage Rack
There is a removeable carpet mat (#4) in the base of the top case which would increase headroom.
