I’ve had an intermittent problem as you know since owning my 2019 R1250RT (analogue) where taking a sharp left or right bend in conjunction with a steep uphill incline the engine gets restricted by the electronics, obviously this could be dangerous especially in traffic with a pillion etc.
The bike was checked at a dealer last year and no fault found as they couldn’t replicate the fault.
I ended up buying a GS911, after a ride out where I know the bike does this on the first corner of the 1:4 porlock hill in Somerset I ray the scan when I got home which was back the end of October now and there were several fault codes logged. Putting these in the bmw lookup fault code page it suggested several things, one being the ecu sending incorrect info and the other was check for a faulty Yaw speed/ bank angle sensor. Looking up what the yaw sensor does it exactly matches the problem and scenario that occurs.
I arranged back in November for the dealer to collect my bike and get to the bottom of this, it was collected on Wednesday.
I had an email from them saying there’s not much they can do as somebody has deleted the fault codes, I certainly didn’t as that would of been pointless!. Anyway a report has gone to bmw but in the meantime a uk technical service manager from outside the dealership said it’s unlikely to be a hardware fault ( I printed off the fault codes and gave to the dealer) and that there was a recent I- stage update that slightly reduces the parameters of front wheel lift, he went onto say this manager suggested a software update for my bike.
Ok, I agreed to this in the hope it may help the issue as I don’t think the software has ever been updated, the reply was pretty much asking for my consent as software is not covered under my “extended warranty “ and the dealer will not be responsible if something goes wrong and the bike is left a brick.
This whole thing has been stressing me out and isn’t good for my own health, after a fairly strong email I sent last night and a sleepless night thinking about it I’ve just sent another saying just to go ahead and update the software and can they deliver it back as soon as possible.
I hope I’m doing the right thing especially after googling bmw motorcycle software update failure…..
Software update ?

Re: Software update ?
What is the cost of the sensor? I would change it despite of what the dealer says - it probably is unlikely but it is a possibility.

New £192. I’ve bought a used one from a local bmw specialist/ breaker for £29 as a spare.

What a load of Rowlocks. If they update the software and it goes wrong, it's up to them to fix it as they did something to your bike that makes it unusable. Personally, i can not see an update leaving your bike as a "brick". They are probably worried about the parts and costs they will have to fix.Panman40 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 7:53 am

I don't think an update is covered in the cost of a warranty. The only time i know of software updates being included is with an engine service at a Motorrad dealer.
Did you buy the bike from a Motorrad dealer or a secondhand dealer?.

No the cost of software isn’t covered under warranty. Unless bmw themselves instruct this dealer to update the software any resulting issues will not be covered by that dealer. I’m sure each branch would handle things differently but not sure.Doctor T wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 6:07 pm What a load of Rowlocks. Re: Software update ?
My previous BMW bikes when in for service used to have a software update when they were released from the factory FOC.
